Oliver! Oliver!
So I had auditions for summer theater with the Hilliard Arts Council today for their production of Oliver!
The first show I did with them was Jekyll and Hyde, back in the summer of 2008 (I was a Red Rat Girl/Chorus member). J&H is one of my favorite shows, and getting to be in it was a fantastic experience. I missed last year’s show due to a lot of budget work at the Statehouse, but...
Just get up there and let it rip!

My first experience with "The Beautiful Game"
Just got back from the Crew/Galaxy game, which I attended w/ Bryan and his friend (our friend?) Dustin. First we went to dinner at Uno’s, then headed for Crew Stadium by the state fairgrounds.
The Crew lost, 2-0, but I still had a lot of fun. My oberservations:
It really is “a beautiful game”—the flow is incredible. It’s a lot like hockey in the ebb and flow and...

New experiences
Tonight I am doing something new—I am going to my first professional soccer game.
I don’t really understand soccer. I don’t understand the flags, the cards, the penalties. I don’t understand why the clock runs up, instead of down.
But tonight, I will try to understand. I’m going to the Columbus Crew v. LA Galaxy game with my brother and one of his friends. My...

The Great Jane Re-Read
Every summer, beginning Memorial Day weekend (as in, today) I do the Great Jane Re-Read: I re-read all of Jane Austen’s novels, starting with Sense and Sensibility and going through Northanger Abbey (first written, last published). If I have time, I read the juvenalia, but that’s a hit or miss proposition.
I also read One Big Novel every summer. It used to be the Russians, until I got...

Memorial Day weekend
It’s not Memorial Day weekend until you’ve had at least ONE hot dog.
My choice:
Whole foods hot dog (really, the best I have EVER had!) with whole wheat bun.
Ketchup
Sweet relish (I’m new to the sweet relish club, but I gotta say, I like it.)
This is summer in America, my friends.

Sing, Sing, Sing
(Before I start, some background: I’ve been singing since I was a wee child. I started taking lessons when I was 14. Took them all through high school. Sang in honor choirs, and at Cap’s Conservatory of Music. Done theater. Am now taking lessons again. I think it’s important to establish credentials before I go forward.)
There is a reason I do not, in general, watch American...

Salad wrap-up
So I posted this salad as my lunch experiment today. Here’s the wrap-up apres-cook:
*Putting ice on the eggs really helped with the peeling.
*bacon turned out well. Yummm. I burned the onions—didn’t realize how fast cast iron would heat up!
*carmelizing mushrooms also very good
*It’s not hard to make, but it’s a LOT of prep. So make it before you’re hungry!

Priorities, much?
And yeah—if you’re Christian, one of the commandments is to keep holy the sabbath day. That means, you know, Church. If you’re Catholic, like I am, that means MASS. (Skipping Mass without a valid reason is a mortal sin.)
If you’re Christian, go to church. Every week. It’s an hour (less, if you’re Protestant! (right?). DO IT.

House errors
So, when you’re confined to the House, you watch a lot of TV. In this case, a lot of House.
So I’m on season 5, and there’s an episode where a deaf kid gets a cochlear implant.
Normally, House is pretty accurate. But…not here.
Some errors:
1) Not just any surgeon can put in a CI. I had a special ENT do it. Chase isn’t an ENT.
2) CIs aren’t activated until 2...

Seven Quick Takes Friday XXII
This was (is?) a regular feature on the Bucket—part of bringing the Old Blog over to the New one. I’m all about the new. A bit irritated, though, as to why the clip art WON’T CENTER. Suggestions?
So this week has been, um, uneventful. Really. Sleeping and eating Club Whole-Wheat crackers and soup. I feel somewhat more human today, and I think I have to go to the grocery,...

Bones finale
Was dumb on MULTIPLE levels. ‘Ere we go:
The “mystery”? Stupid! Gnome was cute, though.
Is the show not being renewed? Because that’s the sort of ending you get when a show’s not being renewed. Except then Booth and Brennan would’ve ended up in a big airport embrace. (And, um, vis-a-vis screening technology, how did they all get back there? When I need an...
