London Bridge (is falling down, falling down...)
Not really. Only in theory.
Well, and not even in theory. People are just falling off it. Very carefully.
The finale of Oliver!—where Oliver is reunited with Mr. Brownlow and Bill Sykes is killed—takes place on and near London Bridge. Since we have our lovely scaffolded set, the top part is, bien sur, the bridge. Some cast members are up there, and others, like me, are on the stage...

We Got Rhythm
If it’s Saturday…there’s rehearsal.
The adults didn’t have to be at the PAC until 10:30, because the kids were being rehearsed first, but I was a little early and got to see “Be Back Soon” and a few runs of “Food, Glorious Food!” Our indefatigable choreographer was there, working with the kids, so that helped, and there’s another dance...

Door one, two or three
So yesterday I saw my Thyroid Endocrinologist, as distinct from my Diabetes/Pancreas Endocrinologist…yeah. I Have two. Most of you don’t even have one. See how cool I am?
(Not.)
Anyway. So my thyroid is overactive. We have three treatment options:
Door Number 1: Meds, and monitoring.
Door Number 2: Radioactive Iodine treatment, which will kill my thyroid. Isolation for three days...

Another Hundred People
Tonight—first blocking rehearsal for Oliver! with everyone.
And yeah, that’s a lot of people.
We began with the orphans singing “Food, Glorious Food!”, which meant that we adults got to sit in the auditorium and watch them do it. It’s a song and dance number, and some of the kids are teeny tiny. There’s one red-head boy (ADORABLE), who’s maybe 5 or 6!...

What? Where? When? How?
Or: Music rehearsal, in many forms.
So tonight I had a double-whammy: Voice and Oliver! rehearsal.
Voice was first. It started as Rodgers and Hammerstein night with “Edelweiss”, “Cimb Ev’ry Mountain”, and “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”
Edelweiss: good.
Climb Ev’ry Mountain: Some trickiness re: intervals at end. Sigh.
But “You’ll...

Last night I had a rare evening of bonding with my little sister.
Even though we are, well, sisters, we’re also eight years apart. So when I was graduating college, she was entering high school. And now that she’s in college, I hardly ever see her, with her crazy nursing schedule and her summer job(s). And with my crazy schedule and job.
So—last night, we got to spend time...

Oliver! rehearsals, week 2
A busy week in the Oliver! universe:
Tuesday I attended a rehearsal to block Act II, since that’s where my character (Annie) has her lines. I’m in Act II, Scene IV, with Old Sally, Mr. Bumble, and Widow Corney. It’s a short scene, but there’s a lot going on—blocking, lines, music. And we did the blocking without the scaffolding to contend with, so that will have some...

You must, at this very moment, stop whatever you are doing, and go get Renee Fleming’s “Dark Hope” album. The “Hallelujah” is ecstasy on CD.

On the Tube
So, I was just on the Children’s Telethon. Again.
I’ve done this before. They have this thing called “Children’s Champions,” where they take kids that have made some sort of hospital history and bring them to certain events, so we can be semi-spokespeople for the hospital. I like the telethon. It’s a lot of fun, you get to meet cute kids, and you’re on TV...
