Radio Silence
Sorry for the Radio Silence, Gang. What I thought was some sort of nutty nausea/vomiting thing became a really not fun case of arrhythmia. I was in the ER Wednesday morning after 3 1/2 days of nausea/vomiting. So I get in there, get hooked up to a pulsox in the triage area, and find my pulse is over 200. Well. If you want people to move fast, that’s how you do it.  After some...

Seven Quick Takes Friday XXIV
(and ‘ere we go…) I went to the gym THREE TIMES this week, as part of “Getting Life Back on Track” (AKA, “There’s a wedding in a month and I’m in it…”). I am so, so proud of myself. This was even though I had a summer cold, which is one of the devil’s little torments, I think. Really? Colds in the summer? And no, it’s not...

Egg in Olive Oil
I just made this and it was SO. GOOD. This is a perfect snack, breakfast, whatever. 1/4 c. EVOO 1 egg sea salt freshly ground pepper Place EVOO in small saute pan and heat until HOT. When hot, crack egg over pan and drop into hot oil. Let fry until egg white is solid and yolk is cooked to your liking, 1-3 minutes. Slide egg with oil into a shallow bowl or dish. Top with salt and pepper. Eat...

I’ve never had kids—obviously!—and will never have them, if all goes well w/ Summit, but for those who have struggled with Post Partum Depression, what Bryce Dallas Howard writes here is really beautiful and brilliant (at least I think so) So think of this as a “good of all womankind” post.

May I have your attention....
At least, that’s what my body’s saying. A summer cold/flu? What is up with that?! And of course, for me, that means I have to be very, very nice to my body so that it stays just a summer cold and doesn’t turn into any thing eeeevilll that could jeopardize vacation (Which is in, um, 9 days). So, body, here’s the deal: You have had two days of doing nothing, so you better...

ARE. SPOILERS. Before we start, you need to know: I. love. Colin. Firth. Like so many girls, it began with the 1995 BBC Pride and Prejudice. And...

The Simple Woman's Daybook--July 19, 2010
Outside my window…it is sunny and hot. And my A/C is broken. BOOO! I am thinking…that  I miss A/C. I am thankful for…wonderful, supportive friends From the kitchen…I actually have a menu for this week! Tonight: Orzo pasta w/ saffron shrimp; then Quesadillas, crepes, and pork/cornbread for the rest of the week. Still not sure what’s on each night, other than...

7 Quick Takes Friday (Vol. 1 for GG)
Tonight going to Mezzo Italian Bar and Grill for Tiff’s Bachelorette Party! Going to see some ladies I haven’t seen in YEARS. Pics to follow! Today is the Feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel—celebration of the institution of the brown scapular to St. Simon Stock. Went to Mass and saw Phil and Nikita. Fun times. :) Saw Strangers on a Train last night. Good, but the clothes cracked...

Irony Impaired
So, as Phil and I were leaving the Statehouse Parking Garage after seeing Strangers On A Train at the Ohio Theater, we were behind a car with very, very strange bumper stickers. First, we had the “W” in the no smoking circle; the “End This War” sticker, coupled with “Obama Biden” and the “Evolve” Fish. But it was two stickers, in particular, that...

Simple Woman's Daybook-July 12
Outside my window…Skies clearing after a HUGE downpour about an hour ago. Of course the downpour occured as I was coming out of Target (There was nothing to eat here but chocolate chips and swiss cheese) and had to get three days’ worth of mail from my mailbox. Oh well! I am thinking…That I am ready for a more ‘normal’ week I am thankful for…summer theater and...

Five years
Fifth in a series of anniversary posts. The rest are: One year Two Years Three Years Four Years Five years. Michaelangelo painted the Sistine ceiling in four years. In five years, a person finishes high school. A baby becomes a kindergartner. Presidents and Popes are elected. People get married, and people die. The whole pageant of life is repeated many times in five years. Five years....

Tech Rehearsals # 3 (Tuesday) and #4 (Wednesday)
ONE MORE REHEARSAL UNTIL WE OPEN! EEEK! OK now that that’s out of the way… Tonight I am home before 11, this is great progress. It means the show is coming together, things are moving smoothly, and Robin has fewer notes for us (meaning: we are doing more things right…). On Tuesday more people were in costume, so we could get used to them. Tonight was the first MANDATORY dress...

A proper Victorian Lady
Yesterday was a big day of Oliver! First I stopped by my friend-and-costume-maker Jaylene’s house to get my skirt and blouse. She did some final measurements and I got dinner while she finished hemming. I came back, paid her, got the outfit, thanked her profusely (because she does great work!) and skedaddled to Hilliard, where, at 6:00, we were going to have our costumes checked by Costume...

The Simple Woman's Daybook--July 5, 2010
Outside my window…Hot. Again. Parts of the state have a heat warning all week. But it’s pretty, sunny and blue skies. I think I’ll hit the pool for a bit later. I am thinking…That I love days off. I am thankful for…good friends From the kitchen…made this pasta salad yesterday. Very yummy! Meal planning for the week in a bit. I am out of olive oil. This is a catastrophe that must...

It begins
Tech week, that is. And to be really correct, it began yesterday. At 9:00 a.m. I got there around 8:40, put on my show shoes (time to break them in), and read some Jane while I waited for everyone else to come on in. The leads were there, miked and ready to go, and the tech crew was making notes on the stage. We had run a few light cues on Thursday, but today we were going full bore lights,...

Fourth of July movies
John Adams mini-series: Really fantastically wonderful, even if you haven’t read the equally wonderful book. Watch Paul Giamatti and Laura Linney lead a brilliant cast through the early years of the United States. The Patriot: OK, I’m sure it’s not historically accurate in a billion ways. But it’s still a wonderful romp of a movie, starring Mel Gibson and the late Heath...

We’ll go a bit backwards, and start with tonight’s music tech, then recap W’s Act II run-through. Tonight we were going to start with “Consider Yourself”, and work our way down to the people with the most music numbers. There were some tech people present (especially our Tech Director In Chief), because the leads were being hooked up to their body mikes, and thus...

Eight symbols
So I read this post about 8 Auspicious Symbols. I’m not Buddhist, but I still thought it would be fun to do. So here are mine: A rose: my favorite flower, national flower of the U.S., symbol of St. Therese a rabbit: my favorite animal a book: well, duh a music staff: so many good things in my life have come through music. the crucifix : Catholicism a star: to remember the past,...
