Barre belle
(ha ha I crack myself UP!)
So tonight, I Returned To The Dance Studio.
And was in the right class. Whew!
The advantage of taking the beginner/intermediate class last week was that this week’s class seemed a lot easier. :) There were barre and allegro combinations that I enjoyed, and actually thought I did with a decent level of grace. Whew!
Our regular teacher is a member of the company,...

24 Hours in Cape Cod
fromme-toyou:
Boats abound, bicycles parked outside shops, an ocean view the Kennedy’s knew so well, dewy marshes, lobster rolls, fishermen’s catch and classic homes make 24 hours in Cape Cod one of peace and quiet.
24 Hours in is a series where I capture an honest portrayal of a place through my experience and what I see within 24 hours shared in 24 frames. All images taken with my Hasselblad...

Pinhole Camera Adventures
fromme-toyou:
Jessica Kausen gave me a Pinhole Camera! One little pinhole, exposures anywhere from two seconds to five minutes makes this little box quite an adventure… Thanks Jessica! This was fun.
These are images from my weekend with the coming of fall, farmers market, a subway trip to midtown, a flea market, and an adorning UWS.
If you build it…
The adventure begins…

The Simple Woman's Daybook--September 27, 2010
Outside my window…gray and a bit windy. Very fall. I am thinking… I love Fall. Thanks for finally getting here. J I am thankful for… a roof over my head. From the kitchen… a Jamie Oliver mac, mint and peas recipe; sesame noodles; a shrimp dish…and I’d like to make something special on Friday, in honor of St. Therese’s feast day. Like, something French. So I’ll be leafing...

First Love...
that is, of classical music.
NPR has a story about this, and it got me thinking…
It’s hard to tell what was “first”. So here’s a list:
Rachmaninoff, “Rhapsody on a Theme of Paginini” OK, maybe not highly original, but this was on the Somewhere In Time album (yes, album) that my mom played when she was pregnant with me. So I guess this is the easiest...

This is one of my favorites. It’s long, so I’m just posting the link….but really, Oscar Wilde, can’t beat his Ballad of Reading Gaol. Really. Just so, so moving. Esp:

So, a girl walks up to a barre....
So tonight, I went to dance class post-voice.
I was running a bit behind My Schedule (meaning I wasn’t late, but I wasn’t at the Studio when I wanted to be) so—> frazzled Emily.
I threw off my street clothes, put on my technique slippers (aka ballet flats) and did a few stretches while I waited for our studio to clear. As the instructor (one of BalletMet’s dancers, who...

Stormy Weather
It’s been a little crazy around her lately, with tornado warnings multiple times a week and temps in the 90s…I want my fall! Fall is generally my favorite season, and I’m missing it! Fortunately tomorrow is supposed to be the last day of 90 degree temps, and my A/C is fixed (for the fourth time this summer), so I haven’t melted into an Emily puddle yet.
Tonight, barring...

Dinner Tonight: Roast Chicken Thighs with peaches,...
(from Melissa Clark’s In the Kitchen with A Good Appetite)
My notes are in italics.
INGREDIENTS:
1/2 lb. peaches (about 1 large or 2-3 small; the firmer the better!)
1lb. boneless, skinless chicken thighs (You can do what I —stupidly—did, and get them with skin and bone. Then you need to use a good pair of kitchen shears to de-skin and de-bone, which is surprisingly fun...
