If I Never Knew You--Reprise
I find it repulsive that people would “save” their children from suffering by abortion.
You cannot avoid suffering. It is part of human life.
Yet, some parents still try to do it. Or think they would.
This repels me. People like me should be seen as PEOPLE, should be treasured and loved for who we are. Suffering can never be avoided. Yet some think that abortion...

More Downton News: For those of you who love Lady Sybil…
fyeahjessicabrownfindlay:
“Downton Abbey” star Jessica Brown Findlay, who plays Lady Sybil, is gearing up for her pregnancy storyline in Season 3. The actress was disappointingly absent from the Season 2 finale Christmas episode, as she and new husband Branson were over in Dublin and informed their parents of the…

Oscars 2011
Well, can you tell I’m a bit lackluster this year?
(That’s a joke….)
Really, I have no interest in this year’s Oscars. Probably because there’s no movie I really love, no controversy, really no contest for Best Picture, no really GREAT films…at least, that I’ve seen. This may change. But last year, we had so much! The King’s Speech! Winter’s...

Style: Ithaka →
washingtonpoststyle:
This poem, by C.P. Cavafy, was read at journalist Anthony Shadid’s memorial at the American University of Beirut Tuesday.
As you set out for Ithaka hope the voyage is a long one, full of adventure, full of discovery. Laistrygonians and Cyclops, angry Poseidon—don’t be afraid of them: …

It makes me so, so happy that TWO of my favorite teams support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. My dad and I used to go to special CFF meet and greets in the 1990s and it rocked. :)
The Steelers also do CF promo commercials….this year we had Brett Kiesel doing them. They were awesome.

For fun, here’s my “stream of consciousness” notes on THE SEASON FINALE!!!!!!

Oh God, Thomas in charge?!?!?! Save us all!!!!
Anna: My husband’s on trial for his life, Mrs. Hughes. Of course I worry.’
Awww Mary gave Anna a locket!
Mrs. H: I didn’t want to spoil their fun, but I couldn’t wear a paper hat.

Downton Digressions...Season 3!
Here is some of the Downton Rumor Mill I’ve been seeing: (Some is more than rumor, and I will note that)
Maestro Jullian says that Mary and Matthew will not have any more obstacles thrown in their way down the aisle. I will hold him to this. Because M&M (or Matthary?) need some love! I want a wedding! And it looks like we’ll get it.
Rumors that NYC “Grandmama” (so...

Oh, my Downton-ites...
Wasn’t that just LOVELY? I mean, really, really lovely? Sigh. How I love Mary and Matthew. And I sincerely hope that Season 3 starts with their marriage. (What else would Grandmama from the States cross the pond for?) I’m glad Matthew got over his silly Lavinia obsession and proposed properly to Our Girl Mary. Be gone, Sir Richard! (Who else LOVED that fight in the library? That was...

Weekend cooking!
SO MUCH weekend cooking happening here!
Today: Making Gwyneth Paltrow’s tomato sauce. It really is a great basic tomato sauce—which is the title of the recipe, “basic tomato sauce”. It’s great plain, but also as the base for her fantastic pasta puttanesca.
Also starting The Barefoot Contessa’s brioche. If you know me, you know this is something I make just...

ENT check up today. All is well. He removed some of the “packing material” (AKA, gauze) that hadn’t dissolved or been blown out, so that it wouldn’t get infected. I see him again in 6 weeks. He is so fast—love it.
Stopped at the market. It’s a long weekend and that means—EMILY COOKS! Brioche is on the menu, as is Nigella Lawson’s “Schmalzy...

The Simple Woman's Daybook--February 13, 2012
Happy 30th birthday, Annie!
(This was at her wedding last September)
We’ve been friends since we were about 6 years old…and now we’re 30? Oh, yikes.
Outside my window…clear, chilly, with a breeze. Not bad. Most of the snow is melted off.
I am wearing…jeans, and a grape camisole, that sort of crushed-cotton pattern. I had a thick cardigan jacket on over it,...

Back at Base Camp....
So I’m back at my real house now, not living with my parents’. :) So that’s good.
Tomorrow: Mass and Third Order. And, I know, a double header Mary/Matthew…but with the pain meds I’m on post surgery, they tend to make me sleepy, so I don’t know if I’ll make it!

A Body of Work
So, this last week has been odd.
I had a cold last week, which turned into chest pain, vomiting, and pancreatitis! I was in the hospital for 2 1/2 days last week, getting pain and nausea meds and basically letting my pancreas chill out. This was probably my 11th bout of pancreatitis, so I am an old hand at this. BUT I got to be one of the first patients in the new NCH, on the 4th floor,...
