Thoughts on Les Miz trailer
1) Personally, I LOVE Anne Hathaway’s version of “I Dreamed A Dream.”—at least the first, you know, minute we heard of it. I think the understated and intensely sad take on it works well. 2) The film itself looks beautiful. Love the scenery and costumes. 3) I’m excited to hear the men sing! 4) The person I’m most worried about? Amanda S. singing Cosette....

Theater review: Love Never Dies (Australian...
Yes, there is a sequel to Phantom of the Opera. Yes, people are heavily divided about it. And yeah, it didn’t do so well in London. But the Australian production, which was released today in the US on Blu Ray and DVD, has made some huge leaps forward from the London OP. However, it’s still lacking in some major areas. The plot: 10 years later. Phantom’s in Coney Island, NY,...

Morning at the pool
Since it’s Memorial Day weekend, it’s swimming pool opening time for a lot of folks in the U.S. I went to the pool this morning, before it got too hot. It was packed with kids, but, surprisingly, they preferred to stick to one area, so I could actually swim. The water was cold—a shock to the skin, but it’s going to be in the 90s today, so the water will warm up quickly....
Seven Quick Takes Friday
A nice interlude yesterday: I went to Wal-Mart to get the accoutrements to pkant my garden yesterday. The woman who helped me asked me if I was deaf (after I asked her to repeat herself the second time), and then proceeded to sign the rest of the transaction with me. That seriously rocked. I planted tomatoes, herbs, and two miniature roses. I hope I get some actual tomatoes. It’s...

Simple Woman's Daybook--May 21, 2012
Outside my window…breezy and warm (low 80s), but storm clouds look to be gathering. I am wearing…a navy blue wrap dress I am reading…just finished Alice Hoffman’s The Dovekeepers. While I took awhile to get into it, it really redeemed itself with the last section. In the CD player…Adele’s 19. Yes, I am late to this party. But…better late than never,...

(looove First Watch) Came home to take out trash, do load upon load to dishes, and general cleaning. Then—the show! Sunday: Church. The show—the last one. :( tear. I’m going to miss everyone. The Simple Woman's Daybook--May 7, 2012
Outside my window…sunny and breezy and warm…low 80s. But that’s all *supposed* to change when storms roll in in a bit. We’ll see if the weather guys are right. I am wearing…one of these awesome t-shirts (the Emily D. one. I mean, how perfect?), jeans. From the kitchen…oh, I am being SO LAZY here. I really need to get back in the swing. I think lemon pasta for...
Friday: The show! Aren’t you surprised? :) Followed by going home, getting in bed and reading The Song of Achilles again, because I really like this book. Before the show, had a sublime salmon dinner and bought new sunglasses. Also read Redeemed, by Heather King, and scribbled some character sketches. Saturday: Bath. Clips. Lauds. Gym. Lost another pound! Woo. :) Puttered a bit around the...
