Sunday

It was quite a lovely Sunday—no rain, and the choir loft was not as abysmally hot at usual. (I’m sure I will appreciate its warmth in the winter. I just don’t now.)The Beethoven went splendidly, as did the Mendelssohn (which I didn’t sing. I’d missed practice writing a paper for my Biblical Studies I class, and my German is not strong enough to guess on its pronunciation with any degree of certainty.). So it was German Composer Day at St. Pat’s.

After Mass I had a meeting of the Dominican Laity. It’s a group that strives to live the Dominican charism, but we don’t take vows, like brothers and nuns—we make promises. It’s a little different, and I won’t be selling all my worldly goods when I get the scapular! My friend Niki and I submitted our applications to enter the postulancy, as did Jenny, another girl in our inquirers class. Assuming the three of us are accepted, we will be interviewed this summer by the Council and begin our postulancy classes in the fall. Sr. Mary Catherine (the novice mistress at Summit) says these classes are excellent preparation for life with them, so I am glad to be moving forward. (Another Sr. Mary Catherine quote—”[spiritually, formation] is so easy. We make it difficult!”

Instead of breaking off from the main group for inquirer classes, we stayed to hear Fr. Blau talk about the Dominican order and fidelity to prayer. He told us about the three orders: First Order, Friars (even though the nuns are older!), Second order, Nuns, and the Third Order, the Laity. Niki joked that we’d have all three: Phil a friar, me a nun, and her in the laity. I like that idea! As usual Fr. Blau gave an excellent talk. I could listen to him all day.

After the talk we said Vespers in the church; beautiful, as always. Phil gave me a recording of the choir’s lessons and carols from last Advent-can’t wait to listen to it!

I would’ve enjoyed the day more if my body was more cooperative—my incision scars are driving me crazy, and I’m coughing more than I should. Which means—giving clinic a call in the AM! My sats are fine, and I don’t have a fever, so if there is a problem, it’s in the early stages. (Really, this is a bad time for a problem. Auditions coming up, a paper to finish…sigh.)

This week is busy—meeting w/ a friend tomorrow, choir on Wednesday, voice on Thursday. And finale week for House and Bones!
